And if thou wilt walk in my ways, to keep my statutes and my commandments,
as thy father David did walk, then I will lengthen thy days
1 Kings 3:14
Best Years Missionaries
The purpose of Best Years Missionaries at First Baptist Church Murphy is to effectively reach, minister to, and discipleship. We encourage the development of trusting relationships through meaningful shared experiences that may include fellowship, service, and missions participation. Best Years of one’s life offers one the greatest opportunities to serve others. The freedom of time allows the Senior Adults the opportunity of giving more to personal services. We implement cornerstones of this senior adult ministry to meet the needs:
- with spiritual enrichment
- with socialization
- with meaningful service opportunities
- with learning opportunities
- with special services for those who need them.
Our Best Years Missionaries is a ministry of fellowship and fun for all adults over the young age of fifty-five (55). We provide fellowship opportunities through dinners, day-trips, cruises and ministry-related service are just a few of the activities that make this one of the most fun groups in the church! North Carolina Baptist Aging Ministry (NCBAM) (ncbam.org) is a big part of the group's activities.
The Bible contains many references to age and aged which emphasizes the importance of this group to the church body. The Old Testament declares that longevity is a special blessing of God: “And if thou wilt walk in my ways, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as thy father David did walk, then I will lengthen thy days.” (I Kings 3:14). The Psalmist plead “Cast me not off in the time of old age; forsake me not when my strength faileth.” (Psalms 71:9)
Our desire at First Baptist Church Murphy is to see that senior adults and their families are reached for Christ. We want to help the seniors of our church take up the challenge of living a Christ-filled life in all areas of their lives – at home and at church.
